A new blog for a new stage of life

Life can throw us curves.  My previous blog is no longer.  It was accidently closed. So I go with the flow.  I'm tired of fighting technology that I don't understand.

I am an artist.  While I work mostly with fibre, I think it best to describe me as a mixed media artist, as paint, stencils, block printing, and dye can all be part of my day.  But, I started as a quilter, and while I consider quilting just another tool in the box, it's a technique that is used in most of my work.

Most recently I have created two pieces designed to be kept and used by myself.  One is a commercial design, made simply for my own pleasure--Long Time Gone, by Jen Kingwell.  This was professionally quilted by Helen Mazlowski of Cedar House Quilts in Lockport Manitoba.  It is now ready for binding, and today, I found the right fabric for doing that.  It is about 67" by 69".

The borders of the above piece were made by taking all of the scrap fabrics left over, cutting them into strips 1 3/4" wide, and then joining them end to end.  I really got into the "grove" doing that joining and made far too long a length of binding fabric.  So I used that extra length to make three small quilts meant as donations to a local charity I support. there is a fourth piece still in progress, and I'll show that in another post. All of these are my own designs.

At the same time as Helen quilted the first piece mentioned above. piece, she quilted a small piece made and designed by me, but based on the techniques of Maria Shell, as described in her book "Improve Piecing".  This is the third piece I have designed using these techniques, and I have another one planned.  This piece is about 47" by 47".  It has been bound.
